Levulose for bass and computer-generated sound (1986)

Most sugars are right-handed sugars (dextrose). But left-handed sugars (levulose) are also possible. What if we could create a food that was sweet and satisfied our hunger while we starved?

Sequences of pitches and silence are continuously left-shifted to create changing patterns, interrupted by poignant interludes.

Levulose was written for bassist Mike Price and performed and synthesized live over the PLATO network using the CERL Sound Group’s Interactive Music Synthesizer (IMS).
